Asylum procedure depends on your location. UNHCR offices in the North cover those living in Grand Tunis, Sousse and Kairaouen and surrounding areas, while services in the South cover those living in Zarzis, Gabes, Gafsa, Tataouine, Sidi Bouzid, Sfax, Medenine or any surrounding areas. UNHCR’s procedures remain the same in all locations, however depending on your location you will be referred to different service providers available in your location.
STEP 1: Applying for asylum

STEP 2: Refugee Status Determination (RSD)
The process after your asylum application is called Refugee Status Determination (RSD). After you apply, you will be contacted for an interview to gather more information about your asylum application. This will be your main opportunity to explain the reasons why you left your country and any important information about your experiences in your country of origin. The interview will be conducted with a support of interpreter if needed. You can either be recognized as a refugee or your application can be rejected. In case of rejection, you have the right to make an appeal.
